The term "emergency messages" subsumes the so-called "distress" and "urgency" call. Accordingly, both message types are considered as emergency messages.

An "Emergency Message" is initiated with the proper RTF prefix

  1. PAN-PAN, PAN-PAN, PAN-PAN or MAYDAY, MAYDAY, MAYDAY
